Brisbane International finals

I was lucky to score tickets to the Brisbane International tennis finals because a friend unfortunately couldn’t go. I’ve always loved watching the tennis on the tele, but have never been to a live match. It was great! The doubles match was particularly entertaining as we go to see world number one Ash Barty in action and it’s just so fast. I will make sure I grab myself some tickets for the next big tournament that comes to town. Best thing, you can take a lens of up to 200mm into the venue.

2Ballerinas 2019 Christmas concert

I started tap dancing for the first time a few years ago at 2Ballerinas in Newmarket. It’s an excellent dance school for adults and a great community to be part of. After I did my little tap number, I grabbed my camera and captured the rest of the concert.

QIA Dancers 2019 Christmas concert

My little mate Harry started Irish dancing with QIA Dancers this year. At his request my husband and I went along to his end of year concert to cheer him on. It was a really fun morning watching a form of dance that I don’t normally see. It has a passionate community and a very skilled group of dancers.

Liftin' for Livin' 2019

Strength Sports Gym again hosted Liftin’ for Livin’ to raise awareness and funds for mental health and remind us all that “it ain’t weak to speak”.

This is the second year that I’ve photgraphed the event and I loved every minute of it!

Website and social media content shoot

A fun little shoot to create some content for my friend’s writing website (check it out here!).

Workshop with Daniel Bredberg @ CameraPro Festival

CameraPro puts on great festivals during the year and gives us photographers access to amazing workshops with talented photographers. I went along to Daniel Bredberg’s session where he showed us how be brings his complex compositions together. Using a stock image as the background he shot three models during the session and showed us how he pulls them into the one scene. My key takeaway was his attention to detail about light on the models and where it should be coming from in relation to the scene.

The set and styling was extraordinary, put together by the very talented Belinda Kuhlewein from Husk and Vine and Shylie Parsons.

We had a chance to photograph the models one they had finished their shoots. Check out the detail in their costume and makeup. There’s also one in there of the shoot in progress.

Western Districts Netball 2019 presentation dinner

I played at Wests for many years, so it was a pleasure to take photos at their 2019 representative dinner. I felt very inspired after the keynote speech from Rachel Forbes, a former Wests player who found herself playing for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Brisbane Fesitval River Fire 2019

The highlight of my Brisbane Festival volunteering was again taking photos of the Audi on Riverfire Night. I had access to the Goodwill Bridge for both the Growler fly over and the fireworks. So much fun!

My fireworks photos have improved from the year before too - how good is in camera multiple exposure!

Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 2019

The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is divine. The weather was amazing, the events were great, the gardens were beautiful. For years I’ve wanted to go to the carnival - this is the second year in a row that I have. It’s definitely on our annual calendar of events from now on.

Street Fashion shoot

I jumped at the opportunity to shoot some street fasion as part of the Canon Collective’s Queensland Regional Photography Festival in Toowoomba. These photos were shot on a mirrorless R with a 50mm lens. The photography festival was held on the same weekend as the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers which I also love.

Kenmore Netball 2019 presentation night

As a Kenmore Netball alumni and former member of the Club’s committee, I love seeing this netball club go from strength to strength. While I’m not longer out on court or committee for them, I jumped behind the camera a few times this season to capture all things Kenmore. The presentation dinner was a fantastic celebration of the season that was and the friendships that have formed because of this club. Some of my best mates are still active players and continue to run the club.

Intraining 2019 presentation night

When I’m not injured (that seems to be not very often at the moment!), I run with Intraining Running and Triathlon Club. I got behind the camera for their annual presentation night and found out what our runners actually look like without visors and running gear. Verdict - they scrub up pretty well.

Brisbane Festival volunteering

I’m volunteering at Brisbane Festival again this year. I’ve been going to the festival for years, this will be my second year of also volunteering at the festival. We had our volunteer briefing the other day- can’t wait for the Festival to start!

Ekka fireworks from the Rydges rooftop

Yet another awesome Cannon Collective event! This time we had exclusive access to the rooftop at Rydges Fortitude Valley to capture the Ekka’s nightly fireworks display. I always learn something new at these events, this time it was multiple exposures. I now know how people make their fireworks photos look so awesome.

Kenmore netball photo day

It was photo day at Western Districts Netball Association, and I was there to capture all the action for Kenmore Netball.

Photo walk

I’ve not worked with models often, so I jumped at the chance to join Bruno Domingues on one of his photowalks. He arranges the models and we get to shoot them for a whole afternoon. I was a little hesitant at first as I’d not been to a photowalk before, but once I saw how it worked and got to know the models a little it was very fun.

It was a great opportunity in a low stress environment to play with camera settings, try out poses and generally take some awesome photos.

Gold Coast Marathon

The Gold Coast Marathon is a goal race for so many people. It’s easy to understand why - it’s a huge race, with a flat (ish) course in a beautiful location. I ran the half marathon at Gold Coast in 2016, my first and only (so far) half marathon. My neighbour and friend was running her first marathon this year, so I decided to head down the Coast bright and early and took my camera with me to take photos for the Intraining runners who were competing.

It was also a marathon for me - seven hours of shooting to make sure I got the first and last runners. I was so inspired by everyone who ran. Maybe I’ll come back next year and actually run!

She's here! Newborn family shoot

Beautiful Adelaide joined the family a few days after we took Mel’s maternity photos.

Mel and Dave's maternity shoot

I was very lucky to be asked to take some photographs of Mel and Dave’s beautiful family in the days before four became five. We had a lovey afternoon out at Camp Mountain playing until sunset.

Uluru and Kata Tjuta

Finally made it out to see Uluru. So worth it.
